Purple Elephant Family Support have declared themselves “overwhelmed at the enthusiasm and kindness” of local people who are holding an all-welcome, 12 hour long, ‘Moveathon’ to raise funds for this vital children and family charity, on Sunday 22nd February.
Headed up by sports therapist and fitness instructor, Lizzie Daschner, of Optimum Health and Sports Therapy, a team of four exercise enthusiasts and charity-supporters are offering an all-welcome opportunity to join them at their non-stop-exercise sponsored event, at Beckington Memorial Hall.
As Purple Elephant Family Support founder, Sue Willis, tells us “Lizzie, Olivia, Maritsa and Emily are already part of a team of 10 sponsored runners taking part in the Bath Half Marathon for Purple
Elephant in March, so we have been blown away to find out they are also planning to involve as many local people as possible in this additional extraordinary 12 hour event!
Anyone, of any age, with those under 16 to be accompanied by an adult, is invited to take part in whichever sessions appeal to them for as long or as little a time as their fitness levels and energy allow.”
Proceedings will kick off at 6am on the Sunday with a Military-inspired Bootcamp on the Beckington Recreation Field. There will then be a 10-12km run around the local countryside (with a power walk on offer for attendees that prefer a lower impact or less challenging option), with a return to the hall for much-needed refreshments, including cakes and flapjacks donated by local cafe, Mes Amis.
The classes, requesting a minimum donation of £10 each (or £5 for under16’s) and with all proceeds going to support Purple Elephant’s year-round work, will commence soon after everyone has returned from the run/walk. The programme for the day including Pilates, Dance, Barre, Strength and Conditioning, FitKidz, Core, a stretch class and breath work, closing with high energy dance!
