Current and Ongoing Volunteer Vacancies
Current Volunteer Vacancies: We are seeking those who share our vision, to help children and families to thrive joyfully.
Needed now: short hours, one-day-only volunteers – at Frome Children’s Festival – Sunday 19th July
Our free, one-day, multi-activity family festival in central Frome, mainly outdoors.
Needed for between 2-4 hours, depending on role, volunteers who will need a DBS checked, are encouraged to contact us NOW!
Be part of the fun on Sunday 19th July, by volunteering for any/all of the following:
- early morning: strong, energetic volunteers to set up tables, chairs, gazebos, etc.
- early morning: creative-loving types to hang bunting, fly flags and dress the site
- day-event hours: cheery, enthusiastic ‘stewards’, offering friendly directions to families
- day-event hours: mature, happy people willing to help manage the queues to some activities
- late afternoon: tidy-up and clear-away team; from litter-picking, to de-bunting to table-carrying
Throughout the year, we also regularly look for:
Youth Club volunteers:
For 8-13 year-olds, Thursdays (term time), a once-weekly commitment is welcomed, but we accept applications from those who require more flexibility.
– Covering 4.30pm to 7.30pm, working alongside a team of professional Youth Workers, volunteers help set up/clear away.
– We’re seeking enthusiastic, adaptable, nurturing, non-judgemental and kind adults – to support, encourage and have fun with young people – ideally with existing experience of young people.
Fundraising volunteers:
Occasional, short-term roles – do not require DBS check, experience or training – needed, ad hoc, to support street collections, stalls at fetes and fairs and to assist at fundraising events. Includes supporting local people who are taking part in sponsored activities to raise funds for us.
Trustees:
This role requires an existing understanding of, and experience in, either youth work, early years or family support and an understanding of the charity landscape.
Our Trustee positions require an understanding of legal obligations as well as, vitally, an ability to offer a guiding hand with our service plan delivery and commitment to approx. bi-monthly meetings.
A willingness to muck-in onsite and occasionally assist at our joyful fun, family events is also important.
Holiday Activity volunteers:
Low time-commitment, with a choice of days, for enthusiastic, adaptable volunteers age 16+ (able to provide character reference) at our energetic, creative and fun family school Holiday Activities.
– Most sessions require half-day volunteer support, with a willingness to ‘muck in’ – setting up tables, washing up, playing low-key sports, helping with gluing and painting, as well as clearing up afterwards!
– A non-judgemental manner combined with a sensible attitude, a fun nature and a sense of joy are vital at these sessions.
– Any age adults are encouraged, and we welcome younger volunteers in their teens too.
Befrienders (for adult-to-child Befriending service): Specialised role best fulfilled by those with previous experience with children in social care, education or similar and who have a working knowledge of safeguarding. Ideally, already DBS checked and able to offer a long-term, weekly commitment; training and expenses provided. Those with a professional background in support work are also encouraged.
If you are interested in volunteering for these or any roles please contact Service Manager, Sue Willis, on suewillis@purpleelephant.org.
