Frome Children’s Festival organisers, local charity Purple Elephant Family Support, are delighted to announce that this all-town-welcome family event will be happening again this summer. Kicking off the school holidays, on Sunday 27th July, and running from inside The Cheese and Grain, out in the Market carpark, along Welshmill Woods and into Welshmill Park, the free event is the town’s celebration of childhood. This year, included in the organisers’ announcement is a direct appeal to volunteers to offer a few hours of free time, to make sure the day runs smoothly.
With a focus on accessibility and inclusivity wherever possible, Frome Children’s Festival will host dozens of activities including basketball, boccia, goal-practice and archery; dance and theatre performances will entertain; there will be nature-based and wildlife activities as well as craft, creativity, scrapstore and graffiti art to join in with. Local providers will offer glitter tattoos and face-painting, as well as music workshops in the professional Bert Jansch Recording studio; with BMX workshops on the ramps, and the Key Club youth club hosting a chill space, all age groups will be catered for, right down to the very youngest who can opt for a baby-only area on the day.
As Sue Willis explains, “In order to make the day happen, we are appealing to the people of the town to join in the fun by offering a few volunteer hours. As little as two hours at the start or end of the day to put up gazebos or join the creative hanging of bunting and dressing the site. We also need some cheery stewards to offer friendly directions during the busy day, plus a few willing litter-pickers at the end would be so welcome too.”
